I have a short research proposal due tomorrow for English. It only has to be 500-600 words long. I can't think of a topic. It would be easy if not for the fact its supposed to be something we don't know a lot about or already have strong opinions about. So basically anything car related is out. I'm supposed to state an opinion and create an argument as well. Ideas Oppo?

Something you don't know a lot about? Simple. Whats the history of a car company you like, but don't really know the history of?
For example, why does Mercedes have a 3 pointed star as it's emblem? What does it signify, and what are it's origins, and is it still appropriate today?
I know why, you could google it and find out pretty easily, but not everyone knows.

I had a much better one years ago. Submitted it as a joke to a professor who was, consequently, my rugby coach.
I was told that if that paper crossed his desk, he would fail me and have my adviser sign me up for the less desirable poli-sci prof.

Raid on St Nazaire - the sending of 265 British Commandos vs 5,000 German troops into a heavily defended German occupied territory of France to disrupt potential military operations. Was this frankly suicidal mission justified?

Peer to peer digital bacon trading? You could utilize unused computer cycles to "fry" bacon by solving complex algorithms. A full bacon would be a "slice" and a fraction of a bacon would be a "bit".

something people dont know about or have an opinion on? Jesus...thats not much to go on. Oh. How will you state an opinion about something noone cares about? I know...your opinion is that you wont form one. Its too boring and worthless to deserve an opinion...whatever subject it is.
Public water fountain s. Everyone forgot about them...theyre still around and work well. Opinion is. Most are cold and there no line therefore theyre good and a public service announcement should be made on them.

How 'bout: Water quality and economic changes if global ship-breaking reform is enacted. There are known look-the-other-way nation-states where ships go when their owners wish to be rid of them. Ships are not innocuous, quite nasty in fact. Lots of nastiness ensues, environmentally, labor-wise, etc. when they're not useful anymore. Using the weakest-link idea (someone is always willing to be the dirtiest trader, or maybe an ungoverned region like used-to-be-Somalia), where will the dead ships shift to for graves? Will shipping conglomerates just sink them at sea, ya know, "accidentally" (use your best NY/NJ mobster accent there). Methodology: Look at density and $-volume of shipping routes, cross-reference with a failed-state and troubled-state database, corruption index (there is such a thing), and oceanic gyres and patrol routes (i.e. where you can conveniently lose a ship), as well as scrap value and prime scrap markets. Have fun with it, though, that's a cool assignment!
